Sound Design Project #1
Silent Movie Sound Design
Silent cinema hasn’t had much of a spotlight shone on it in recent times and with this project I attempted to explore the reasons why.
With some research I was able to identify that the genres lack of mainstream popularity might be down to its lack of audible stimuli.
The challenge was to try and enhance engagement between the film and the audience with diegetic sounds to accompany the films original score.
It was important to retain some element of a silent movie and a small study group agreed that preserving the original films omittance of dialogue would be appropriate in order to still consider it a silent movie.
Sound Design Project #2
Fight Scene Sound Redesign
If you’ve watched any action movie recently, chances are that there was at least one fight scene in it.
I recently started thinking about the impact that sound has in a fight scene and it quickly became evident to me that most of the energy that drives a scene (sound-wise) is music based.
This clip is a fight scene from Zack Snyder’s Batman vs Superman.
The original audio that featured Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL’s score has been removed and has been replaced with a new scoreless sound redesign.
